“Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten and Beloved Son of God.” I hear this sentence pretty frequently. And to be honest, it bothers me. If you think about the words—or at least when I think about the words—it seems very anti-doctrinal.  Seeking answers, I turned to dictionary.com (because I’m a big English nerd).  Begotten is defined as being the past participle of beget,...

Our Daily Bread, Our Weekly Sacrament →
In addition to the sacrifice of Christ, consider the bread representing him as you take the sacrament this week.

*in le apartment*
*knocking sound at the door* I hear Kate in her room getting up to answer it so I assume her brother is coming over or something and let her get it.
Kate: Hi... *sees name tags* Uh, are you friends of Alex's?
Elders: Yes, is she home?
Kate: Yeah, I think I heard her moving around here somewhere... ALEX?!
Me: Yeah?
Kate: There are people...
Me: Uhm, okay? *gets up, assuming it's someone from church, trying to figure out who the heck...*
Me: *sees Elders* :D
(They were tracting in the neighborhood and came to say hello.
*day is made* (which is saying something since today I'm going to rehearsal to perform at the Super Bowl and then maybe to a costume party) Just having them stop by, even though they couldn't come in, has strengthened the Spirit in my apartment.)

C.S. Lewis Wednesdays
1/12 months complete! And now I have a question for you.  I think that most of the excerpts and quotations that I’ve chosen are thorough and can speak for themselves. But is that what you, the readers, want? Or would you prefer for me to share my thoughts and impressions? Would you like a bit of editorial with some of them?

Evangelism My feeling about people in whose conversion I have been allowed to play a part is always a mixed with awe and even fear: such as a boy might feel on first being allowed to fire a rifle. The disproportion between his puny finger on the trigger and the thunder and lightning which follow is alarming. And the seriousness with which the other party takes my words always raises the doubt...

The State of the Union Address isn’t beginning with a hymn, a spiritual thought, or an opening prayer. Of course. I wouldn’t even be in favor of that because it would be an offensive blow to the separation of church and state.  But is it weird that it feels like it’s missing something? Maybe it’s just me, haha. #mormonproblems

“The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is...”
– - George Mueller (via thesweetermelody) ^This post is just offensive. Anxiety has nothing to do with lacking faith. My faith is extremely strong, despite struggling with an anxiety disorder. This statement is completely ignorant of what an anxiety attack is really like.  Also, having faith...

I’ve been looking forward to church more than usual this week. I was so excited to take the sacrament. I read ahead for the lessons in Sunday School and Relief Society. I figured out what I was wearing ahead of time. I set an alarm early so I could read some scriptures and have breakfast before church. I had a long meeting after church and I was looking forward to it. Then I was going to...

Hey Satan, NO!
I was just reading something that pointed out how Satan works especially hard right before and after we have great spiritual experiences and it dawned on me how true this is.  Before: The first week of January was extremely difficult for me. I was excited for the new year and all of its possibilities. I have short and long-term goals where I have the means to make some really good progress this...

Immortality Immortality makes this other difference, which, by the by, has a connection with the difference between totalitarianism and democracy. If individuals live only seventy years, then a state, or a nation, or a civilization, which may last for a thousand years, is more important than an individual. But if Christianity is true, then the individual is not only more important but incomparably...

Nearer, My God, to Thee
I know a lot of you guys are familiar with Nearer, My God, to Thee as sung in church, and as performed by BYU’s Vocal Point. Personally, I’m a big fan of both. I love Vocal point’s arrangement.  So, I present to you, dear followers and other readers, a performance of that arrangement (a brilliant nine part harmony) performed on the cello:

Scripture Snacks
When I sit down to study my scriptures (or anything else church related), I’m usually at it for a good long while. (I’ve pulled as many all-nighters reading the scriptures as I have doing school work.) So, often times, I get the munchies while I’m working. But I don’t want to eat anything while I’m using my scriptures that could damage them. This excludes anything...

O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever. Alma 37:46

Worry Remember that one is given the strength to bear what happens to one, but not the 100 and 1 different things that might happen. And don’t say that God has proved that He can make you fear poverty, illness, etc. I am sure God never teaches us the fear of anything but Himself. The Collected Letters of C.S. Lewis, Volume III

Ether 12:27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

Can we prove that the Church is true?
No. I don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong—I know with all of my heart and soul that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ. I know that any person who seeks the truth with a sincere heart and real intent [Moroni 10:5] can know for themselves the truth of this church through the witness of the Holy Spirit. But we aren’t going to have...

Journal Keeping
I loved this post by Al Fox. (If you’re not familiar with her, check out her blog and/or her YouTube channel.) I’m inspired and I thought I’d share my own journaling system. The black journal is the oldest. I started it in May. It’s my missionary journal. My boyfriend will be leaving for a full-time mission this year. Whenever I come across a scripture (like D&C...

Blogging in 2012
It’s a new year and I’ve got some new tricks up my sleeves.  Every Wednesday on this blog will be a C.S. Lewis Wednesday. C.S. Lewis is well known for writing the Narnia books as well as a good number of other books on religion. He wasn’t LDS, though he was a Christian. He wrote some wonderful things and I’ll be sharing a small excerpt or quotation with you once a week.  ...
