There is always the hope, and often it is true, that one with an open mind may admit one simple thought: “Could it possibly be true?” Combine that thought with sincere prayer, and one more soul enters a private sacred grove to find the answer to “Which of all the churches is true, and which should I join?” …
Brethren and sisters, never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Never...

Some new research may be suggesting this. I’m not going to fly into a paranoid rant here (because it is fairly early in this research I think), but I’m grateful for the Word of Wisdom.

You don’t serve a mission for the blessings you’ll receive, though they are many. You do it for the blessings you’ll get to bestow.

When I told my parents I was becoming a Mormon
amenalready:
I was like:
At least initially, I’m pretty sure this is why my mom supported my conversion. Not that she really had reason to worry about it before, but she knew I wasn’t going to get addicted to drugs/alcohol, or get pregnant, etc. I usually reference this when people ask how my parents took the news, actually.

Convert pride
amenalready:
For those of us still in the church, we need to recognize that member retention is a problem, and we could all be doing more to help. Extend a hand. Be kind. Sit by someone in church. Don’t be a friend out of obligation, or make the investigator your little project, just so you can turn your back once they take the plunge- get to know them as a person and be a real friend. Show love....

Epistle to the Ephesians, how are you so good?
It’s just so full of doctrine and insight. I’m struggling with it because I want to read the whole thing every time I pick it up but there’s so much to take in that I need to pace myself. If you haven’t checked out this book of the Bible in a while, DO IT.

Friends who build up your testimony
I have a friend called Victoria. We’ve known each other for less than a year but she has quickly become one of the best friends I’ve ever had. In about ten minutes she’ll be set apart and blessed as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of the most important things I’ve learned from our friendship is that no matter where you are or...

Missionary Work: A Major Responsibility →
This talk is a bit of an oldie, but it’s such a good one. Anyone wondering why Latter-day Saints focus so much on missionary work or anyone serving a mission or even considering serving a mission really should read this.

Litter makes me angry.
Seeing people litter kind of enrages me, actually. Especially if it’s someone driving a car with Christian stickers all over it. Seriously. You are aware that God gave you this planet. He made it just for you and me and the other people that you see here. This is a sacred place. And you’re just throwing your garbage all over it? Is that what you think of what God created for you? What...

Fun fact: There are seven wards of the LDS Church and a family history center in the town I’m named after.
It’s also within a very short drive of two employment centers, a welfare home storage center, a family services center, two more family history centers, a visitors’ center, and—of course— the Washington D.C. Temple!
TL;DR: LDS Maps is a really cool toy.

Atonement, Agency, Accountability →
This talk… I’m blown away by it. I’d heard these principles before of course, but putting them all together this way I can say without a doubt was inspired of God. I wanted to post so many excerpts but they just won’t do it justice. I want everyone to read it. It’s so much more than I ever would have guessed from the title.

What My Soul Always Knew
From the beginning, some small part of me knew I would be baptized eventually. My soul remembered why it came to Earth, and waited patiently for the rest of me to catch up. My spirit always knew the truth of the gospel and knew it could count on my brain to recognize it when the time came.
Before I even agreed to be baptized I told Ben that I wanted to be married (to him) in the temple. I was...

How I Gained a Testimony of Christ
Summarized in Verses I’d Never Read at That Point in Time
John 10:37-38 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
[so] John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
The goal of the first part is to align your will with His will. That’s how the second part works.

At Institute I was asked to give the closing prayer and before I did there was an exchange between two people about the fact that I “give good prayers.” That’s not the first time that’s been said to/of me. I’m not really sure what I do well but thanks guys? It’s definitely a good compliment.
What do you think makes someone good at giving a prayer?

It takes exactly as long to repent as it takes you to say, “I’ll change”—and mean it. Of course there will be problems to work out and restitutions to make. You may well spend—indeed you had better spend—the rest of your life proving your repentance is genuine by its permanence. But change, growth, renewal, repentance can come for you as instantaneously as it did for Alma and the Sons of Mosiah....

The best thing I heard in church today was that the problems in the world today aren’t unmanageable. They’re largely the result of individual choices, and could easily be turned around by individuals who make good choices.
Make good choices and influence the people around you to do the same.
